It brings me great pleasure to announce the launch of International Journal of Population Stu-
dies (IJPS) published by Whioce Publishing Pte Ltd. IJPS is a new open access, multidiscipli-
nary journal that aims to publish high quality original research and reviews of recent advances
and emerging issues in population processes, including dynamics of fertility, mortality, and
migration and linkages with socioeconomic and environmental change across time, space, and
cultures. The Journal publishes the following types of articles: original research, research re-
views, commentaries, perspectives, technical research notes, and book reviews. The range of
the Journal's coverage includes substantive empirical analyses, theoretical work, methodologi-
cal papers, qualitative studies, policy analyses, and applied research. The Journal focuses on
formal and applied demography but covers a broad range of disciplines: social gerontology,
anthropology, business and marketing, behavioral sciences, economics, environmental sciences,
geography, history, psychology, public health, politics, sociology, and statistics.
It is my greatest honor and pleasure to have my remarks included in the inaugural issue of
the International Journal of Population Studies. As the Editor-in-Chief, my primary goal is to
develop IJPS into a leading international journal in the study of human populations. I will de-
dicate myself to several strategic goals: (1) using a rigorous double-blind peer review process
to ensure that the papers published in the Journal reflect the most important and cutting edge
issues in the field of population and development investigated with science that is high quality,
original, theoretically grounded, and methodologically rigorous; (2) creating a diverse editorial
board and generating a reviewer pool that from all corners of the world, reflecting today's best
scholarship in the field of population and development; (3) encouraging submissions from au-
thors worldwide, especially those from less developed regions; (4) meeting the professional
needs of readers, authors, and reviewers by publishing several special issues on a regular basis
that reflect rapidly emerging interests and research areas in population studies; (5) sharing our
valuable work with a wide audience network; and (6) making the Journal an important
cross-disciplinary platform for the important connections between science and policy-making.
We are very excited and thankful that this first issue is composed of eight excellent papers in
the field of aging and migration studies (see editorial by Professor Bernardo L. Queiroz in this
issue). I sincerely hope you enjoy reading these fine pieces in the inaugural issue of IJPS. I feel
confident that the issues to come will cover other perspectives as noted earlier and look for-
ward to reading more about the latest achievements in population studies.
It is my hope that you will find IJPS useful in your research work and that it will help you to
develop skills and strategies to address challenges you face in research. Please register as a site
user so that you can offer feedback to our authors about their work and participate in the di-
alogue we have just started. I also invite you to contribute a research article or a comprehensive
review to be considered for publication in this journal.
Finally, I wish to give a special Thank You to the associate editors, the managerial editor, all
