lifestyles, enclosed communal spaces, and diverse cultural
patterns while accommodating mixed populations within
confined spaces (Reiser & Umemoto, 2006). Importantly,
while guiding and influencing the surrounding lifestyle,
these developments gradually create new urban communal
spaces and stimulate novel forms of social organization.
Under the influence of dynamic factors, these formations
have the potential to evolve in a more rational and organic
manner (Li et al., 2023) (Figure 19).
4. Conclusion
Following the extensive real estate development of the early
20 century, the intensity and scope of capital operations

in the Dashilar area gradually diminished. In recent years,
attention has shifted toward the emergence of high-quality
cultural and creative spaces, which have been celebrated
as an effective strategy for the preservation of hutongs.
However, a sober reflection on Dashilar’s 600-year history
reveals that the existence and genesis of these cultural and
creative spaces are intricately tied to the capital market’s
exploitation of the area’s original historical context.
Initially, cultural spaces arose as a form of resistance
to capital-driven forces and as a counteraction to the
precarious conditions of the neighborhood. Their aim was
to transform into authentic cultural industries, designed
