Experimental
Electromechanical Control of Sorting Device
A pressure regulator (OB1-MK3, Elveflow) as shown in Figure 2 was used to pressurize 50
mL reservoirs containing 400 buckyballs (BBs) in 50 mL of deionized water. The BBs were
then forwarded to the microfluidic device via PTFE tubing with an inner diameter of 0.8 mm
(3200068, Blacktrace). The microfluidic device was spaced within the optical path at a precise
distance from the lens using a 3D printed holder attached to the filter cube. The microfluidic
valves were actuated via 3-way valve block (VV061, SMC), controlled via a USB MUX valve
controller (MUX Wire, Elveflow). The pressurized air for the valve block was manually
regulated to 3 bar. The pressurized air for ejection was regulated via the Elveflow system and
controlled via Microfluidic 3/2 Peek Valve (MPV3/2, Elveflow) attached to the MUX valve
controller. The well plate is positioned via a motorized microscope stage (SCAN 100 x 100,
Märzhäuser-Wetzlar), controlled via a stepper motor controller (TANGO Desktop,
Märzhäuser-Wetzlar). All the mechanical and electronical components are controlled via the
main Python control program running on a PC.
